Property Taxes

Do something about your property taxes!

The newest publication by the National Association of Industrial & Office Properties (NAIOP) is designed to assist taxpayers in developing a clear understanding of Minnesota’s new, more locally focused property tax system.

The piece is based on the award-winning study "Understanding your Property Taxes," recently updated by the Minnesota Taxpayers Association.

Inside you'll find out how to read your truth-in-taxation notice and how to get involved in your city's spending decisions. As a property taxpayer you should not hesitate to ask what efforts local government officials (city, county) are making to make up for lower amounts of state aid (LGA). Prudent spending cuts can be made before raising taxes.

The piece contains a calendar to help you understand when decisions are being made throughout the year that affect your property taxes. A step-by-step calculation takes the "mystery" out of how your final property tax bill is determined. Finally, find out what your property taxes actually pay for.
